A leading region in Europe, the Île-de-France Region has made culture one of its priorities, with a budget of more than 100 million euros for 2023.

The Île-de-France Region supports all sectors of culture. It devotes almost half of this budget to live performances: theatre, music, dance, circuses, festivals, etc. After the State, it is the leading public authority for supporting the cinema and audiovisual sector, with a budget of almost €25 million per year. It supports the creation, production and dissemination of works, and has diversified its efforts to promote young artists, emerging artists and artistic and cultural education, with an unwavering aim to reach all cultural actors and all audiences in all territories.

The Region is conducting an inventory of Île-de-France’s heritage and supporting its preservation, restoration and enhancement. Its work not only concerns protected heritage but also unprotected heritage through the “Heritage of Regional Interest” [Patrimoine d’intérêt régional] label, with nearly 200 sites having received this label since 2017, including Serge Gainsbourg’s historic house.
